Barge Works

Waterfront Access for Waterfront Construction and Earthworks

With so many waterfront properties on the Gold Coast and in south east Queensland, access to the foreshore, many sites can only be accessed from the water.

A large number of Alan’s projects are undertaken directly from the water by using our barge. Capable of carrying raw materials and equipment directly to the site, This includes our excavator and bobcat and we are also able to remove debris from the worksite.

The barge enables us to access these properties with minimal or no disruption to the existing infrastructure.

Accessing waterfront properties for construction and earthworks can be a major challenge, particularly along the Gold Coast and South East Queensland, where many sites are only reachable by water. At Alan Davis, we specialise in overcoming these challenges with our professional barge works services, providing safe, efficient, and reliable waterfront construction solutions for both residential and commercial projects. Our specially equipped barge allow us to transport raw materials, machinery, and essential equipment (including excavators and bobcats) directly to the worksite, eliminating the limitations of restricted land access and minimising any disruption to existing infrastructure.

Using our barge, we can undertake a wide range of waterfront projects, from demolishing fallen retaining walls to rebuilding revetment walls and installing piers. Our approach ensures that even the most difficult to reach sites are managed with precision, safety, and efficiency. By operating directly from the water, we can carefully remove debris, place building materials, and complete excavation or backfilling tasks without compromising the surrounding environment. This method is especially valuable for canal and riverfront properties, where traditional land-based access is often challenging.

Our team combines decades of experience with specialised barge-mounted equipment, ensuring that every project, whether it’s a small residential retaining wall repair or a large-scale river reconstruction, meets the highest standards of quality and durability. With a focus on expertise, safety, and customer satisfaction, we deliver barge works solutions that are practical, effective, and tailored to the unique requirements of your project.

Case Studies

Men at Work

This project involved the careful excavation of a failed revetment wall, including the removal of concrete slurry using jackhammers. Due to the site’s limited land access, our barge provided a stable platform, allowing two excavators to operate efficiently from the water.

Demolition materials were systematically broken down, loaded onto the barge, and transported for recycling offsite. This approach minimised disruption to the surrounding area, ensured safe handling of heavy debris, and allowed the project to be completed with precision and efficiency, demonstrating the versatility of our barge-mounted equipment.

Demolition

In this project, our team was responsible for the safe demolition of a failed retaining wall. Using a barge-mounted excavator, we were able to access the site directly from the water, where traditional land-based equipment could not operate.

The stable platform provided by the barge allowed us to carefully dismantle the compromised structure with precision, ensuring that the surrounding areas remained unharmed. All debris was managed efficiently, and the project was completed safely and effectively, highlighting the advantages of barge-based construction for challenging waterfront locations.

River Project

As part of a large-scale river project, our team utilised a barge-mounted excavator to safely and efficiently manage the loading and movement of construction materials. By operating directly from the water, the barge gave us essential access to areas that would have been extremely difficult or impossible to reach from land.

This approach allowed for continuous transport of debris and materials, minimising project delays and disruption. The project demonstrated how barge-based solutions can streamline waterfront construction and maintain environmental safety.

Limited Access

Projects with limited access, such as canal or riverfront properties, can present significant challenges for construction and earthworks. In this project, our barge provided a practical solution, allowing an excavator to operate directly from the water. This approach made it possible to deliver materials, manage debris, and carry out essential construction tasks efficiently, even where land-based access was restricted.

By using the barge, we minimised disruption to the property and the surrounding environment while ensuring the project was completed safely and on schedule.

Bobcat

For this project, our team combined barge access with a bobcat to efficiently place gravel behind a newly constructed retaining wall. The barge allowed equipment and materials to be transported directly to the site, overcoming the challenges of limited land access.

Using this method, we were able to carefully position and compact large volumes of material, ensuring the retaining wall was properly backfilled. The project highlighted the efficiency and precision that barge-mounted operations bring to waterfront construction.

Material Transport

As part of a major river project, our barge was used to transport essential building materials directly to the worksite. With road access limited or impractical, delivering heavy and bulky supplies via water proved to be the most efficient solution.

This approach allowed continuous workflow, minimised disruptions to the surrounding environment, and ensured that materials were placed accurately and safely. The project showcased the versatility of our barge services in overcoming logistical challenges for waterfront construction projects.

Retaining Wall

This project involved the demolition and reconstruction of a failed retaining wall where land-based access was not possible. Our barge provided the only practical means to reach the site, allowing our team to safely remove debris and deliver construction materials directly from the water.

By operating from the barge, we were able to complete the works efficiently while minimising environmental impact. The project demonstrated our expertise in managing complex waterfront constructions with limited access and challenging conditions.

Demolition & Rebuild

On this main river site, restricted access meant that all demolition and complete rebuild works had to be carried out using our barge.

Operating directly from the water, our team was able to safely dismantle the failed structures and transport materials offsite while executing a precise rebuild. The barge allowed for seamless handling of heavy equipment, including excavators, and ensured that the project was completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest construction standards.

Major Projects

For a major riverfront redevelopment, our team carried out a full-scale rebuild entirely using barge access due to the absence of land-based entry. The barge facilitated the transport of excavators, materials, and debris, allowing us to execute the project safely and efficiently.

From demolition to reconstruction, every stage was managed directly from the water, highlighting the effectiveness of barge-mounted solutions for large-scale, restricted-access waterfront projects. This project reflects our expertise in handling complex marine construction challenges.

Piers

In this project, our team used barge access to install screw piers at a waterfront location with limited land access. Working directly from the water allowed us to precisely position the barge-mounted equipment and drive each pier securely into the foundation.

This approach ensured stability, accuracy, and minimal disruption to the surrounding environment. The project demonstrates how barge-based solutions enable precise construction and installation in challenging waterfront locations where traditional methods are impractical or impossible.
